Overview of Medical Billing & Coding

Medical Coding: Converting diagnoses and procedures into standardized codes for accurate billing.

Medical Billing: Submitting claims to health insurance companies for payment of healthcare services.

Medical Billing and Coding Process:

  • Healthcare providers document the services you receive.
  • Coders assign appropriate codes to the documented services.
  • The billing team submits the claim to your insurance company.
  • The insurance company reviews the claim and determines payment based on your coverage.
  • Any remaining costs (deductibles or co-pays) are billed to you.
